A Venue Born From History & Character
Nestled within the historic Hawkes Brewery — a landmark Bishop’s Stortford building dating back to the 17th century — Water Lane Lounge & Bar transforms raw industrial architecture into an atmospheric, award-winning night out.
Exposed brick, vaulted ceilings and warm amber lighting set the stage for our signature cocktail menu, bar snacks and a curated programme of live entertainment spanning two unforgettable floors.

Where is Water Lane Lounge located?
We’re at 31 Water Lane, Bishop’s Stortford, Hertfordshire, CM23 2JZ — housed within the historic Hawkes Brewery building in the town centre.
Open Thursday 6pm–midnight, Friday and Saturday 6pm–2:30am. Closed Sunday to Wednesday.
Book online via our reservation page. A £15 per person deposit secures your booking and is deducted from your bill on the night. Walk-ins are welcome but cannot be guaranteed.
Is Water Lane available for private hire?
Yes. The Cellar Bar accommodates 40–90 guests for part or exclusive hire. The Loft is perfect for 20–25 guests. Contact us directly to discuss your event.
What is the minimum age to enter?
Water Lane is strictly 21+. All guests must present a valid UK photocard driving licence or passport. Electronic ID scanners are in operation — no exceptions.
Smart casual required. Jeans and t-shirts are fine. No tracksuits, sports shorts, sliders, caps or hoods. Management makes the final call on entry.
No — Water Lane is a fully cashless venue. All major debit/credit cards and mobile payments (Apple Pay, Google Pay) are accepted.
